I can’t believe how many activities I managed to squeeze in within the short span but there was still so much left on my list that I wasn’t able to strike off. Despite so many commitments in this busy month, I still insist to take part in performing in TUSO(Taylor’s University Symphony Orchestra)’s annual concert 2015 : La Mossa (which means movement) : Unfolding The Timeless Pieces. It was quite a last minute decision as I just asked the orchestra president whether there was any instrument left for me to play during concert a week before the concert. I was so happy when he told me that I was allowed to perform! Though I have only a week to practice, with some other events that have obstructed me from going to practice with the entire orchestra daily, I’m glad that I still manage to accomplish it!
What I have learnt from Shine Discovery Session that I joined previously is that time constraint is not an excuse for something not to work out. And I still believe it. In a week time, when I was not able to practice with the full orchestra, I listen to the mp3 of the songs and practice myself instead. Eventually during 3-days practice, I was also able to follow up with the orchestra.
Another thing I have learnt is to be independent. I was in percussion session, while the percussion leader is also the president of TUSO, who was really busy especially when the concert was around the corner. Hence, I have to look for the music conductor and search the music scores myself. Other than that, before practice I also have to find my own instrument from the music room. I was required to figure out everything myself, or ask others if there was anything unclear and get updated with the flow of the performance as I was unable to attend the dry run. I have learnt to be independent since then.
I was bursting with so much energy and gratitude in my heart while performing on stage on that night. I played music with school band during my high school years, and I’m really thankful that I still have the opportunity to play music on stage with a bunch of talented people in university. Passion in music does make anything possible!
