I was appointed to organize a camp, which is called Jiocamp in June 2015. It is one of the annual informal camp hold by Sky Adventure Club and this is the 4th Jiocamp happening in Sky Adventure Club. The objective of this camp is to establish and strengthen the bond between the members in Lakeside campus, as well as club alumni and advisor, to instill a sense of belonging among them and to create a deeper understanding of and reinforce on all members the vision and mission of the club, and hence a commitment to the club.
The 2 days 1 night camp was hold in Port Dickson, with a very relax and flexible schedule. As we intend to keep the fee within RM100 per member, hence there is no luxurious living there; while there were 4 members who voluntarily ferried the members to Port Dickson. We had a hike at Tanjung Tuan coastal forest, a jungle trail leads through the coastal forest, which takes about 30 minutes of hiking leads to a fantastic view of a secluded beach. Other than that, we also had a very fun dinner at the roadside having readily grilled BBQ chicken along with a great live band, with spending less than RM10 per person. That was a very entertaining and unforgettable night where only us with the band, no one else, had a very interactive session, dancing and duet with the band, and get hyped up with the song ‘ It’s My Life’ where the band got everybody up and danced! In the midnight after dinner and dance, we also played boardgame – Twister which require physical move and interactive body movement, seeing people having funny poses was really exhilarating!
While the next day, we had picnic and enjoy playing volleyball at the beach, too much fun that we have to called the homestay owner to extend our check out time. Fortunately, the house owner is too generous to coincide with us without second thought!
Organizing this camp has also got me out of my comfort zone as I usually only involved in organizing formal indoor seminar, charity drive and etc. It got me worry at the beginning as this was the first time holding trip or camp. I worried that no one will have any slight interest to join this trip, worried that I couldn’t bring the fun. But I was wrong. I have learnt so much, from booking accommodation to preparation of meals and games, which got me unwell initially, yet feeling well and have a sense of completing my work when things actually works eventually, I feel like as if I can conquer the world!
Also, I have also learnt to be flexible and do not afraid to ask for others’ opinions. As I am a person who value structure and organization, sometimes I get helpless when things does not go how I have planned it to be. During the camp, the schedule was constantly interrupted and changed due to time constraint, but with the help of some other club members, the activity, surprisingly, was more fun!
