MEASUREMENT 3

It's the third one - MEASUREMENT 3! It seem so surreal that we have learnt so much thing through Measurement subject, from the measurement of foundations, to floors, walls, ceilings, and now windows and doors, till up to roof already! This semester's measurement class was indeed a great time for me as compared to previous classes as the topics were much more lighter, and the way Mr. Darnell convey the knowledge is completely perfect for me, everything was clear and understanable, where we need not much time to catch up everything.
Similar to other semester, we have a group assignment. But what is different this time is that we are required to visit an existing condominium OR small office & home office OR serviced apartment to collect data and information instead of referring on Architecture or Engineer Drawing. This assignment I would say, is more practical in improving our learning since it enables us to recognize the items measurable for doors and windows, as well as distinguish and illustrate differences in writing up descriptions in accordance to design changes of for doors and windows.
Taylor's Graduate Capabilities
1) Discipline Specific Knowledge
Upon completing the assignment, I am able to apply what I have learnt into practices. As what people said, experience makes learning faster. I can produce measurement for doors and windows in accordance to Standard Method of Measurement (SMM2), which makes me understand professional practice within construction industry.
2) Lifelong Learning
Other than that, the assignment also allows me to learn independently. When I am stucked in writing description, I can refer to previous exercises and lecture notes. I also learnt to read and analyze an information myself before asking any questions, hence then utilize the knowledge effectively.
3) Thinking and Problem Solving Skills
Thinking and problem solving is not only practiced when preparing measurement and Bills of Quantities, but also the process when we collect data and photo during site visit. There were times when we are confused with our records, but after arranging it systematically, the information is utilizable.
4) Interpersonal Skill
As I mentioned just now, there were hard times everytime doing measurement assignment, but eventually we still worked it out as a team, or perhaps as a group of friends. After all, solving everyday problem is more like your attempt to deal with people everyday.
