It also explores the various organisational characteristics, structure, behaviour and effectiveness of an organisation. We are introduced to decision making strategies, analysis tools and motivation concepts hence lead the students to be an efficient and effective management personal.
This module is a new thing for most of us, but the content is familiar for me. Attended Shine Discovery Session previously had taught me about the application of SWOT Analysis, developing our personal and leadership values, crafting our personal mission, as well as setting our goal and action plans. What's different of learning in this module and the personal development session is that the session is more to personal understanding and development that goes along with real life application, while this module is more to theory-based and towards greater perspective, which is organizational understanding and development. Hence, this module has develop my discipline specific knowledge capabilities where I able to put theories into practice, and as well put practice into theories.
As the old cliché goes, the journey is more important than the destination. So an important part of actually learning to be confident is experiencing the setbacks along the way and figuring out the best way to navigate them. During the group assignment given, I was able to locate, extract, synthesise and utilise information from research and lecture notes effectively. The process of discovering has also slowly taught me to become a lifelong learner.
During tutorial classes when we were required to do the exercises in groups, that's when our communication skills developed. As I am also a member of AIESEC, i have also gained the confidence to speak out my opinion in front of a group of people. I used to believe it was difficult for me to connect to people. Yet, the more people I talked to, the more I learned! Presentation in class also gave me a platform to share what I understand about a theory, and allowed me to be more open-minded in receiving feedbacks from the tutor- Mr Wong Chong Wei.
Relate this module to AIESEC is certainly compatible. Accumulating the experiences of organizing various event, leading in so many activities have got me used to leading in most of my academic assignments naturally. In Foundation when I did not exposed to these leadership skills, I used to carry out the things my own way individually without actually care about my team. As silly as it sounds, I had the old thinking of 'My team's success is not my success, my success is my success'. After engaging AIESEC since semester 2 and this module, I came to realize that effective leaders do not act solely as individuals. The purpose of a leader is to work with people to find solutions that work best collectively. Leaders bring people together. The best leaders don’t act with a sense of superiority; they act with a sense of empathy. In short, this module has indeed developed my interpersonal skills.
