MEASUREMENT 2

This module covers the principles and function of Standard Method of Measurement (SMM2) including measurement principles, descriptions and standard phraseology. The topics covered in this semester include measurement of :

 

1) brickwork of internal and external walls

2) timber floors and stud partitions

3) staircase structure

 4) floor finishes

5) external and internal wall and their finishes,

5) ceiling finishes ; and

6) staircase finishes including painting

 

All measurements will be based on the SMM for Building Works Second Edition by the Royal Institution of Surveyors, Malaysia.

 

Upon completion of this module, I have practiced Discipline Specific Knowledge. Accumulating all the knowledges I've learnt throughout Year 1, I was taught to put theories into practices, such as exams and assignments. It allows me to read from the construction drawings so that I'd have an idea of what to be measured.

 

I always understand that Lifelong Learning is an essential part of life. Other than paying attention in the measurement lecture, I've also made my own revision after class to gain more insights about the topic. When I faced any queries or problems, I'll approach the lecturer : Puan Habizah, who is willingly sacrifice her time to answer the students' doubts effectively. By concentrating in class, attending the tutorial classes, having a kind lecturer that passionate in educating her students, in addition with my eagerness to learn indepently, I am able to locate, extract, synthesise and utilise information effectively.

 

Undoubtedly, measurement classes always have us to squeeze our brain when we attempt to understand the drawing and ways to measure. Thus, I believe our Thinking and Problem Solving Skills will increase over years upon graduation and prepare us to the real life world.

 

Construction industry is not a one player thing. We have to work hand in hand with other team members in order to complete a work. Thus, Interpersonal Skill is truly an important skill in this industry. By understanding the team's dynamic, each of us is able to mobilize the power of teams. While handling the assignment, we're required to communicate with each other to ensure the scaled measurements are synchronized.
